God's story. Your story.

God’s story is a story of restoration as He calls each of us from our rebellion, back to Himself. It is a beautiful story of majesty, grace, and the perfect love of the Father for His children. Have you taken the time to know God’s story?

God created a world that was perfect and good, and He created you and I to enjoy the world with him in beautiful fellowship – all for His glory. Fellowship however, was broken through man’s disobedience and his desire to be like God. Our hearts became sinful and this beautiful world was never the same.

Enter Jesus. The wrath that you and I were to experience because of our sin was placed on Jesus, who came from heaven to earth and lived a sinless life and gave himself as a sacrifice on the cross. Jesus paid the price that you and I owed for our sin. In the darkest moment in history, God took our sin and placed it on Jesus, and he took the goodness of Jesus and made it available to us.

Because of Jesus, our fellowship with God can be restored. God’s invitation to us is a relationship with Him through His son, Jesus Christ. Galatians 5:17 says “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come”. The relationship that was broken has been restored.

God is inviting you to be a part of His story. Our prayer is that you respond to God’s invitation – that you acknowledge your rebellion, and place your faith in Jesus to save and restore you.

How Can a Person Get into Heaven.

The idea that salvation is a gift that comes by grace through faith and not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9) is so radical that many religious people cannot accept it.  We can sum up the Christian teaching on how a person can get into heaven in ten words:

  • God loves. A favorite verse of many Christians is John 3:16, which begins with "For God loved the world."  God's love is the motivating factor in how He deals with humanity.

  • Humans sinned.  The Bible says that Adam and Eve introduced sin into the world by rebelling against God's will (Romans 5:12-18).  As a consequence, "death spread to all men, because all sinned" (Romans 5:12).

  • Jesus died.  Jesus Christ came to this world with one purpose: to die in our place and be raised back to life again.  Romans 5:8 says, "But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!"

  • We Believe.  "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation" (Romans 10:9-10).

  • God forgives.  When we enter relationship with God through faith, our sins are washed away.  Isaiah 1:18 says, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow."  This cleansing comes through the blood of Jesus, which brings "forgiveness of our trespasses" (Ephesians 1:7).

Jesus' sacrifice allows us to enjoy eternal benefits.  It's ours for the asking. Just confess your sins and your need for salvation, and then invite Jesus to be your Savior.

If you made this commitment to God, the Bible says...

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13

 Growing in Christ.

  • Spend time each day with God in prayer and reading the Bible. Start with the Gospels in the book of John. If you don't have a Bible, let us know and we'll get one for you!

  • Not sure how to pray? Here's a suggested acronym for your prayer time: A.C.T.S.

    • A - Adoration, praise God.

    • C - Confession, admit it when you sin again. You won’t be perfect.

    • T - Thanksgiving, be sure to thank Him often for His many blessings to you.

    • S – Supplication, ask God for what you need.

  • Get involved in community. Attend weekend worship, join a small group and start serving. God created us for relationships. We need them in order to become all He's created us to be.

  • Get baptized. This is an act of obedience for believers. Learn more about baptism during our Membership Class or by using the contact information listed below.

  • Attend a Membership Class at First Baptist Church of Silsbee.  This is a great way to understand our Mission Statement ("Moving in the Right Direction through...worship, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship, ministry").  Let us put some helps into your hands that will help you continue your faith journey in Christ.
